The Derana Music Video Awards concluded with a history-making event as the musical group, Daddy, created history by grabbing six awards. Daddy, which started off under the name JADA, is lad by Gayan Perera, Gypsies Sunil Perera’s son.

The group clinched the Best Sri Lankan Pop Video for their track, Massina, along with the awards for Best Overall Performance, Best Direction, Best Art and Best Concept of a Song.

Queen of hip-hop, Ashanthi, carried off the award for the Best Hip Hop Video for her hit, Alawanthiyak. Bathiya ‘N’ Santhush picked up the awards for Best Cinematography for Best Video Adaptation of a moni song and the Bronze for Rasvihidena. Popular young vocalist, Shihan Mihiranga, won the Popular Music Video Gold Award.

The award ceremony comprised 18 categories and most of the videos were judges by a jury panel while a few awards were presented to those who received the most number of SMS votes.
